Tessera’s project team held the kick-off meeting in the context of its participation in the research project “Smart Software for Optimizing On-Call Duty and Shift Scheduling through Advanced Algorithms and Big Data Analytics” (SmartShift), with OPSKE code EKPAR01-0061633.

The meeting took place on Friday, 12 December 2025, at Tessera’s offices. The overall implementation framework was presented, the work packages, deliverables, and timeline were reviewed in detail, and the team’s commitment to timely and high-quality execution of its responsibilities was reaffirmed, with the goal of successfully completing the project.

SmartShift falls under the “Research – Innovate” Action (Intervention I: Research and Development by Enterprises) and focuses on the development of innovative software for scheduling on-call duties and work shifts. The application aims to address the needs of organizations and companies that operate with rotating schedules and/or on a 24/7 basis.

The new solution will leverage advanced optimization algorithms, big data technologies, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning tools, offering:

  • fast and user-friendly calculation of shifts and on-call schedules,
  • enhanced human resources management,
  • improved service to citizens,
  • a fair, balanced, and functional schedule for employees.

The final product will include:

  • a web application,
  • a stand-alone desktop application,
  • an AI chatbot for support and guidance.

The project started on 1 December 2025 and will be completed on 30 November 2027, with a total duration of 24 months. Implementation will be carried out exclusively by Tessera, with Mr. Vasilis Efopoulos serving as the scientific lead.

With SmartShift, Tessera aims to develop an “intelligent” software solution for optimizing on-call/shift schedules, addressing critical operational needs and contributing to the modernization of the day-to-day operations of organizations and businesses.

The project “Smart Software for Optimizing On-Call Duties and Work Shifts through Advanced Algorithms and Big Data Analysis” is implemented within the framework of the “Research – Innovate” Action and is co-financed by Greece and the European Union (European Regional Development Fund – ERDF) through the NSRF 2021–2027. The Action falls under Priority 1 “Enhancing Research and Innovation” of the “Competitiveness” Programme and, more specifically, under the Specific Objective “Developing and strengthening research and innovation capacities and the uptake of advanced technologies (ERDF)”. The Action is implemented by the Special Managing and Implementing Authority for Research and Innovation Actions (EYDE EK).
